Our story so far...

Papamoa Optometrists was the first optometry practice established in Papamoa in 2004 in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty.

Originally from Southland, optometrist Scott Dumbleton graduated in 1996 and in 1997 started work in northern Pakistan at the Gilgit Eye Hospital until 2003. In 2004 he returned to help open Papamoa optometrists before returning back to Pakistan for shorter trips. During 2006 Scott became therapeutically qualified which complements his hospital experience dealing with eye infections, trauma and anything unusual. In 2008 he purchased Papamoa optometrists and has developed it into a full time practice.
Anita Neill is a real Papamoa local; her family have lived in the area for over 100 years.  Anita has been a registered Dispensing Optician since 2006 and has worked in several practices, enhancing her knowledge of the optical industry.  Anita has a passion for style and fashion and will guide you to a frame design that best suits you.  If we haven't got what you are looking for in stock, Anita will do her best to source it for you.

We offer friendly service and professional advise and most importantly we listen to you the patient.
We will work to your budget and offer you options, without aggressively up selling.

Around 3 or 4 years ago when it was time for an eye check and possibly new glasses, and having been far from satisfied with several optometrists I had dealt with to date, I inquired of a friend who was known to be exceptionally fussy, where she had got her last glasses from. She told me Scott Dumbleton was, in her words, absolutely wonderful, and dedicated to getting eye wear as close to perfect as possible. So off I went to Papamoa Optometrists to see just how good they were and my friend was correct. Scott persevered with testing until the new glasses prescription was just right. Getting that friendly, caring, personal service which is so often absent in the “Chain” establishments, is very refreshing. I can and do highly recommend Papamoa Optometrists to everyone.    Kerry - Mount Maunganui, December 2013

My family lives in Tauranga city and we really struggled to find good quality, affordable eye care. When my 2 year old son displayed signs of a lazy eye nobody seemed to believe me! I found Papamoa Optometrists and decided to give them a go. The service we receive every time we go in there is second to none, they ensured that I received the best care for my son.   My husband is a long term glasses wearer and loves the range of frames they offer and the service he receives. Recently I was experiencing headaches. I was nervous about getting my eyes tested but Scott was extremely thorough and took the time to explain everything to me so I had a good understanding. I especially like the fact that I never feel forced into anything and that they really try and accommodate everything we need!  Often as a mum I have to drag the kids along to appointments which is no hassle at Papamoa Optometrists, the kids are welcomed and looked after kindly! I would and do recommend this optometrists to anyone!!!    Nari - Tauranga, June 2013

I would like to say that I recently had the privilege of  experiencing the most professional, friendly, efficient and cost effective service with Scott Dumbleton and Anita at Papamoa Optometrists. Having seen numerous optometrists over the past 30 years of using prescription glasses and also contact lenses, I can honestly say that I could recommend Papamoa Optometrists as the best in the Bay of Plenty .  They have certainly won any future business from me!      Thanks for all your help and especially your friendly Smiles Anita :)   Shelley - Pukehina, June 2013

I live in Papamoa for one year and quite new in this area, it is always difficult to establish all services again, like hairdresser, dentist and optometrist.  I passed the Papamoa optometrists every day on my way to work and decided one day to pop in because I needed new reading glasses.  I've got the best eye examination I ever had.  Scott and Anita are very friendly and the service is exceptional professional and excellent.   Sigrid - Papamoa, April 2013

I came to see Scott for an eye test after my cataract surgery.  I was very impressed by the thoroughness of my examination.  Scott is very kind and caring.  Anita helped me choose new glasses and I took her advise and chose a more colourful frame - all my friends have complimented me on my new look!     Shirley - Otumoetai, March 2013

Papamoa Optometrists offer such great friendly assistance when getting glasses.  They keep you informed all the way through the process which I truly appreciated after being mucked around by another provider.  Nothing appears to be too much of a problem, they are honest and reliable but also very professional.  The prices are very reasonable.  I love the personal service and have absolutely no problem with recommending them to everyone I know.  We will definitely be back and having a 4 year old with glasses we most surely will!    Emma - Te Puke, March 2013
